In the legacy of the principles laid down by its illustrious and venerable founder Late Mr. Vassudeva Mahadeva Salgaocar, the group is contributing to the economic growth and prosperity of the state with a positive influence on the communities it serves.
Under the dynamic leadership of our Chairman Mr. Dattaraj V. Salgaocar, the group is presently on a path to be Goa’s favourite hospitality and education group. In addition, VMSalgaocar Corporation has taken significant steps towards certain important social and outreach initiatives to promote sustainability, wildlife conservation and preservation of Konkani language.
Our Legacy
Born on May 13, 1916, in Goa, Mr. V. M. Salgaocar is one of the country’s most admired businessmen which is a testament to his vision, foresight, diligence, and compassion; qualities, which helped him build an enduring organization with a strong value system.
Mr. V. M. Salgaocar’s early business endeavors ranged from trading in a wide range of provisions and consumer durables in the 1940s, to mining, hospitality and education. His philosophy of business, built on the principles of fairness, excellence and integrity gives a special place to his group touching the lives of all providing direct and indirect employment and ancillary businesses.
Mr. V.M. Salgaocar put a stamp of success and pride on the State’s collective passion for football early in his career, by establishing the Salgaocar Sports Club way back in 1956. The Club is a venerable institution on the map of Indian football, thanks to the great footballers it has nurtured and the national trophies it has won over decades.
Mr. V.M. Salgaocar ventured into hospitality by setting up Hotel Zuari in the port town of Vasco da Gama and later adding Hotel La-Paz Gardens. He also set up Aero Mundial, Goa’s leading travel agency.
Deeply rooted in the soil of Goa and its ethnic consciousness, Mr. V.M. Salgaocar had a tremendous love for Goa and passion for Konkani. If Goa chose to be an independent State in the Indian Union following the historic and India’s only Opinion Poll of 1967, it owes a lot to Mr. V.M. Salgaocar, whose vociferous campaign for safeguarding Goa’s unique identity, earned him the honor of being known one of the key architects of the Opinion Poll’.
Mr. V. M. Salgaocar’s commitment to Goans can be gauged through setting up V.M. Salgaocar College of Law in 1973 Goa’s first law college and one of the most respected legal study and research centres in the country.
